Butterflies come in a wide range of shape, colour, and forms. This module will examine the general structure of a butterfly and compare variations between species. Students will then analyse why they have developed these physical characteristics.

Programmes Objective

To observe and investigate the morphology of butterflies in detail in their natural environment and through microscopy and demonstrations

Learning Outcomes

Be able to describe the biological form and structure of butterflies, then explain the function and development of these physical traits

Learning Content & Activities

explore a designated route around Pak Lap and discover the wide variety of butterfly morphology available
take inspiration from a local butterfly species and recreate their wings using arts and crafts materials
observe the scaly wings and other interesting structures of butterflies under a light microscope and examine photos taken under an electron microscope
